A couple of cool websites to check out that give you more information about events/ civic engagement stuff in Seattle are:

I am excited about the potential of daily candy. It is a website sort of like this blog that e-mails out things going in Seattle, things to know about , places to shop etc. Sometimes it is hit or miss because they are working on a national level but all of the stuff I have been sent so far is worth at least a look.

Search and raise $ for your favorite charities. if you are wondering how searching the internet can support your favorite local charity, check out this website run by yahoo where everytime you search and anytime you purchase something online, money is donate to the charity of your choice. Both organizations I sit on the board of use this as an additional fundraiser. If you need some ideas for charities, let me know.

The coolest new website that I just found is teach street. I am really excited about it and it is a local website. Seattle-ites can find over 25,000 local classes using TeachStreet's directory of local learning. No matter what you want to learn, or what neighborhood you want to learn it in, there's probably someone teaching it near you. Ok, and lastly another volunteer opportunity that for many might be enjoyable.

Washington Beer Commission is looking for volunteers to help the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest on September 12th & 13th at Pyramid Alehouse, just south of downtown Seattle. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: • Set-up—help build the event before everyone gets there • Ticket booth—help welcome the guests and move the lines quickly at the Ticket Booth • Merchandise/WABL booth—help with merchandise sales and sign up new WABL members and serve the WABL Beer. • Brewery help—make sure to collect tokens for every taste serve and occasionally help brewers pour beer. Volunteers will receive free admission to the event and a volunteer t-shirt. No drinking allowed before and during the shift. Please check the drinking policies on the web site. The event will feature fall seasonals by over 30 Washington breweries, Oompah and Accordion Jam on stage and Brewers Oktoberfest Showdown, all under a big Oktoberfest-style tent.
